@prologic I can't code everyday, can't even draw everyday either, especially during these busy, exam-filled days.
But I enjoy the YouTube channels Ashens and MrWeeble usually having advent calendar-ish video projects and the site chip.de having an advent calendar with free software, but there is rarely any good software in there. ๐
@prologic I don't know if we're on the same page, but this new Twitter rule seems kinda abusable. What if you're recording something news-worthy, like crimes, fights, natural disasters with people in the video? Don't the laws you mention only apply to places with reasonable explanations of privacy? How are you supposed to take pictures of literally anything someone is standing next to? And many more questions that just keep coming to my mind.

@fastidious Not really, this is a network that already includes more similar minded DNS projects resolving each others domains and I really believe that there needs to be an alternative for everything and find the idea of alternative domain solutions very interesting. ๐ค
@prologic Yeah, there are still all kinds of problems trying to make these domains work, because most of the Internet just isn't made to work with alternative domains. It doesn't work with some browsers at all and https seems to break it too. Using only http breaks some of the fonts on the site, but that may at least make it easier to read, so it's something I can live with.
@prologic There are also some issues with these domains relying on the browsers to automatically put "www." in front of them, so in some browsers you may need to put it http://www.dogg.oss to get it working. ๐ค

And yes, you should absolutely start your own, because I think that if you run it for some time you get the right to claim your own too level, so you could make ".yarn" a thing, or something else that you'd like.

You can go to https://www.opennic.org/ to find out more or get the fastest DNS server for their resolving in your area. ๐
My fancy OpenNIC domain http://dogg.oss is now functional, so if you have a DNS that supports it, you can give it a try. But sadly most DNS servers don't, so I doubt many people will be able to use it. ๐

On the other hand here we also have some reasonable restrictions, like the fact that parks can decide to prohibit it too, so if it's a park where children are playing it'll usually be prohibited there, but some of those open parks have no problem with it, some even have allow businesses to set up an alcohol stand or rent a place there to serve take-away food and drinks (alcohol included).

@ionores I try to do both. My desk is not too bad and I could open a few beers that way, but people warned me that it'd destroy my teeth, so I learned to open them by smashing the over-hanging part of the cap against a bench or something similar, which is also consider to be a cool way by most and isn't mouth destructing. ๐

@fastidious It is a step in the right direction, I'm not arguing against that, but it won't make me much less skeptical, when it's coming from a company that spent years trying do fight for the exact opposite thing, making official parts hard to get, the phones very difficult to repair and unofficial services unable to even properly "calibrate" the parts together.

I'm not a PLEX user myself, but it doesn't even look like it's showing your collections, just some Live TV, that stupid thing promoting Tidal and some old movies that it claims are there provided by PLEX, if you let them play ads while you're watching them. ๐ค

I was always wondering if people would get "AMCAN1NE" or if it would be better to have something like "0CANINE0", especially since people here don't speak English, but sadly we don't have a word for canine in this language, it's like a two word phrase that'd be way too long an not as nice sounding. ๐ค
But I'm pretty sure even you US people probably have some minimum and maximum number of characters for them, like I doubt something short like "K9" or some long drawn out nickname like "yearofthecanine" or "caninesalwayswin" would be allowed. Also the second one of those would probably also be too arrogant to put on a car. ๐

@movq Find that kinda strange too, since here those rules are completely different.
Here the normal plates have to have 7 random characters and the vanity ones 8 and that can never be changed. One of them also has to be a number in both cases. But than on the other hand I don't think they can deny your request, as long as it's unique and meets these requirements.

@prologic I don't know to be honest, I never ran anything on it before. I usually use Glitch.com to run my web apps. I wanted to try starting a pod there, but Glitch currently has to hibernate apps that aren't being used, at least unless you pay them to keep it up 24/7 so I thought that would make it not very usable for pod hosting, even if it by some miracle supported Go, which it probably doesn't. ๐ค
@fastidious Well my machine is a thin laptop with limited memory, that I don't always have turned on and even if I did, the quality of the Internet here and all the need to use he machine for other things, have it off or bring it somewhere would make it at best run like 6/24 and even than someone would probably tell me to not waste electricity on it. ๐

@magnus If you click the text field, it should appear again. But the app has some problems with selecting more words and sometimes the copy/paste thing doesn't appear either, which is a known issue.
@prologic Yeah, I can imagine that being pretty neat for all kinds of stuff and with my current phone barely holding together at this point, I'm looking into buying a new one and seeing as Androids these days also improved their displays a lot, I guess I'll be able to find out if I'll enjoy the 120hz amoled to the point of no return or if I still think increasing the hz number past 80hz or so is an overkill. ๐ค
Also to be fair to Android, I just checked and it looks like they added at least some other stuff similar to the stuff mentioned in that article about Windows, but I'm using EMUI, rather than the pure Android and this it is probably not only based on the Android version, but also on how much the manufacturer cares about making these things work in their modification of Android. ๐ค
@eldersnake @prologic I don't know much about that sadly, I thought Android improved in that area, but it looks like by default it still only has that shitty TalkBack thing and that's about it, unless you find and install other things yourself.
I don't even know how these things work on Apple, so I guess it's hard to compare when I don't know the other side, guess that Microsoft at least tried to somewhat improve it in Windows 10 and newer (at least according to this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/helpdeskgeek.com/windows-10/windows-10-accessibility-features-for-disabled-people/amp/ ), but if you want to get as close to pure Linux, you're probably not looking into switching to Windows.
With Linux there is so many distributions, that I'd be surprised if none of them had a good implementation, but I haven't really looked into that at any point, so I really don't know.
@prologic Strange you defend Apple than, when:
-Can't even repair their shit without half of it breaking by software.
-Good luck trying to install another OS on any of it, now when it's all using M1.
-No side-loading apps that Timmy doesn't like. Literally can't even choose a browser that's not using the basic WebKit on your phone. ๐
Well, now I'm thinking about it and it is the apps that are opening in the browser, that to be fair doesn't have to be Chromium based, just new and most of those use Chromium.
I guess it can also be compiled as an app in some better way than what I just described, but I don't really have experience with that, so I won't judge that until I see more of it. ๐ค
@prologic Oh yeah, maybe I was confusing it with the Electron apps or the kind of browser apps, that just open the site either in the browser itself or some wrapper that's 99% of the time based on Chromium. ๐ค
@prologic Idk, I'm not that big of a progressive web-app enthusiast, but I guess that's the unavoidable future we'll have to live in, where everything is just some form of Chromium and we all live in a pod, eat bugs and draw the flat ugly smiling illustrations that appear in Gmail, to please put corporate overlords to mock us with. ๐คจ
@prologic Yeah, the separation of apps rarely ends well, especially when it comes to smaller projects.
