Hey it’s me. Remember? Been away for a while. Just thought I’d take a break from everything. It was a fantastic break. What did I do you ask? Minor things here and there but I’ve taken a liking to make/fix guitars. A luthier if you will.
I’m an absolutely complete beginner however I’m enjoying every moment I get. Here is an example of my recent job. Just a simple body respray and neck restoration!
The completed guitar!
The pattern isn’t to everyone’s taste but I’m proud of it.
Looks like ntfy.sh has released support for iOS notifications. I was thinking perhaps Yarn.social could have either a poderator, or user, section to enter in a ntfy server (ntfy can be self hosted btw!) and what notifications to receive.
I personally would like to explore this option until Apple gets their shit together to support Web Push Notifications.
@hacker-news hahaha I must be an outlier then. I use an iPhone since they’re a bit more reliable then most of the Samsungs, Oppos, HTCs, and Nokias I’ve tried over the years.
Spending more? Haha, gotta have something to spend first.
@eaplmx Firefox Nightly with a custom profiles using FFProfile. One profile for everyday browsing, and another one with no extensions for development purposes.
@novaburst hahaha for sure! tbqh XP was the last “good” Windows OS. But that was also the last Windows based OS I used. It was back to Gentoo for me, then I got sick of that. Hopped around and then just settled with Minimal Fedora.
@carsten super super busy at work. Essentially doing two roles and numerous projects and program delivery takes a lot out in a day. I’ve just been collapsing at home after work hahaha!
However I do have some leave coming up which is going to be nice. A lovely staycation! 😂
I’m not quite sure what is going on either. I’m posting (and on my dev pod) just fine. Using Safari on iOS and FF Nightly on desktop. Also uploaded this…
@slashdot this is an interesting turn of events. I wonder how this will unfold.
> Companies that remove features deemed addictive to children by April 1 would not be responsible for damages.
I’m sure social media marketing teams are going to use this to spin features that aren’t addicting. Just like advertising tobacco products in the early 1900’s…
@prologic it really has. I have been flat out at work! But in a really positive way, it’s been a fantastic week so far. Plus I don’t have to work late or even work a Saturday so hooray! 🎉
@mckinley the following is a list of elements that directly render in a Yarn.social post. However using HTML tags in a post will make "many people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.” haha!
Since the HTML tags won't render at all for CLI based clients.
@mckinley feel free to fix CSS issues. I’m not going to touch esoteric browsers as much as people do use them. I make sure Gecko (Firefox), Blink (Chrome), WebKit (Apple) based browsers are good and that’s it.

@hacker-news yyyeeeaaahhh but what’s the catch? They’re not going to open it all I bet, or open it enough for it to work with some other proprietary chip similar to the BCM chip on the Raspberry Pi.
Anybody who had played the original Wolfenstein knows how much of a ground breaker that was for video games in the 90s. An unnofficial 30th anniversay edition has been released. Definetely going to give this a spin on the weekend!
@prologic I feel like the only real reason Java has stuck around these past 10 or so years is due to Minecraft which uses Java for both client and servers. Many aspects around Minecraft used (and still uses?) Java.
Although it looks like they may be steering away from Java now that it’s on consoles etc. But who knows.
However staying on-topic. Open Collective would be a great starting point to help with any infrastructure costs. I have no experience with these services but as long as all the funds are transparent I think it should be worthwhile looking into it.
@prologic yeah it’s setting up all of that shit. The only thing that comes close is Maddy which is a all-in-one. However IMAP is still in beta.
I would set up a Vultr instance in a heartbeat if I could easily set up my own. It’d save me about $17 a year, but it would also give me the flexibility to run other services (maybe another multi user pod) haha.
@carsten Ironing is for suckers. Get a good steam cleaner and you’ll never have to iron ever again. So much nicer and quicker and don’t have to worry about burning holes in clothes!
@hacker-news good to see alternatives pop up. However kontxt does collect quite a bit of data! I know I’m preaching to the choir but Yarn.social does nothing of the sorts!
@slashdot this is inevitable I guess for most centralised instant messaging services. It’s either free but all data is owned by them, or it’s paid… and the data is still owned by them 😂
@mckinley I’m curious to know why you decided to use Librewolf instead of choosing FF Nightly and using something like FFProfile and installing extensions separately.
Having extensions pre-installed and having default changes based on what they (the Librewolf devs.) think is suitable for privacy and security irks me somewhat 😅
@novaburst that’s where people like me can interpret these kind of things. If you’re able to explain to me what this is, which I assume is some type of audio thing, I can then translate that even further to non-tech people.
I do it for a living (among other things) so I’m fairly well versed in lingo.
But this one really takes the cake hahaha! It’s almost bordering the lines of VX Junkies.
Look up “turbo encabulator” on YouTube to see what I mean 😂
@lobste_rs I know I’m not the target audience for this but god damn the description…
> Benthos is a high performance and resilient stream processor, able to connect various sources and sinks in a range of brokering patterns and perform hydration, enrichments, transformations and filters on payloads.
I now get why some people are adverse to technology because sometimes it’s really hard to put it in plain speak! 😂
@slashdot ugh. Can NFTs just fuck off already. This is not how any of this is supposed to work. Buying random shitty tokens and expecting something in return based on what “level” of NFT you purchase is ridiculous. This is just a shitty subscription model (which I also hate).
This video here, How Encryption Keys Work, is one of the best videos I've seen that explains in simple terms how important that little padlock in a browser is.
