@prologic I'd love it, man. Who knows? They're on IRC now, whether they realise it or not. And I'm never gonna stop going on about this, so... πŸ˜πŸ€”
@david Yeah, it's pretty much like that for me too, without the replies from people I don't follow.

Think what birdsite looks like from one of the company's operators / administrators. 😁
@ullarah Ah, that, fellow yarner, is the question, isn't it? ;-) Seriously, though, this term means about 33 different things, depending on who you ask. Me? a) I'm about bringing people together to talk about it, and b) to answer your questions: no, YES, and yes. :-) But, to be frank, a significant portion of the community would probably say yes in response to your first question too.
I’m going to be bridging the biggest #antiwork room on Matrix with the biggest antiwork Telegram group (linked from the subreddit)! πŸŽ‰ Really excited! πŸ™Œ Just sent this to everyone on the Matrix side:

> The flavour of this space might change a bit over the coming weeks... This doesn’t change what [our other admin] and I are hoping to build with this community. We both want this to be a place of constructive disagreements, as well as friendships, and [the Telegram admin] has asked the same of me as part of taking on more responsibility on the Telegram side today...

Read on, in the Fediverse...
@prologic Yeah, I remember. I haven't given up on running it again one day, but it's certainly fallen down my list of future projects.
@adi I was wondering how to structure it; OK, cool, I'll work on that framework and see how I get on. Thanks!
@adi Right. Makes sense. Thanks!
@adi Ah, OK. Yeah, I'd seen a proper RSS 2.0 feed that had the items as nested in channel elements. That shouldn't be too tricky; nor fixing the date. Thanks for pointing that out!
@adi Ha ha. Deal!
Had some fun messing around with bash and regex: https://github.com/jlj77/bookclub

Super kludgy, but it works! ^x^
@prologic Wow. Hats off to you, mate; I've never even gotten close. :-)
@lyse Oh, lovely snap, mate!
Wicked! Welcome! ^x^
@prologic Ah, no it probably isn't, come to think of it. πŸ™
OK, I'm hooked: Wordle 219 4/6

@adi Good point. Yeah, just messing around with the logic at the moment. Ideally, I think I'll crawl the tree of etherpads regularly, and then only run this logic on any changes found.
@adi Great! Glad to hear it. Coincidentally, I'm working on expanding my use of mkws today: writing a script to export a bunch of etherpads and incorporate them in my site. Lots of fun learning about awk's gsub to make sure all the links in the pads are internally consistent in what mkws will output; felt particularly pleased when this line worked as expected:

awk '{gsub(/\\/nfld.uk\\/[a-zA-Z0-9_]*/, "&.html")}1' parsed_master.html > final_master.html
@adi Hey, welcome back! πŸ‘‹πŸ˜
@kt84
> ... we have had this discussion many times on many long car rides 😬 ...

Ha ha! I bet. :-) Welcome @kayos also hope you stick around. :-)
@help Hey @elxidez! Hi, welcome to our pod. ^x^
There are over 2200 active members on BookWyrm.social? Wow. Maybe I should sign up. πŸ€”
Thanks, all. 🀞
My son tested positive this morning. 😟 It's all over his school, so this certainly felt inevitable. At least he's asymptomatic, for the moment.
@prologic Basically, it's another way of connecting to the Tor network; bridges, generally, are non-advertised means of doing so, such that infrastructure operators' blocking of public Tor nodes doesn't prevent their customers from connecting to said network, should they choose to. The added benefit of an obfs4 bridge is that the Tor traffic over it looks random: https://support.torproject.org/glossary/obfs4/
Looks like my obfs4 bridge is getting some use! πŸ§…πŸŒ‰ ^x^
@fastidious Yeah, absolutely, that'd be the ideal, when I'm thinking about my new book club: https://pad.nfld.uk/p/bookclub_master

Either way, it's about staying motivated to learn. I'm always on the hunt for recommendations; this one came via Tyler Cowen from Marginal Revolution iirc.

My reading has taken a massive hit since becoming a dad, though, believe me!
Really enjoying The Scout Mindset by Julia Galef, so far: https://pad.nfld.uk/p/the_scout_mindset
@fastidious _big sigh of relief_ You are indeed correct, sir. :-)
@ullarah Oh, no! Must - not - look. >.< ^x^ It's _Infinity for Reddit_, actually; don't even know why it grabbed me, if I'm honest.
Btw, anything in my yarns having to do with stuff I'm running will be reflected on https://nfld.uk somewhere. It may not be straightforward to find, though! Getting a bit hefty, for a home page. ;-)
@prologic Sure! All the details are at: https://pad.nfld.uk/p/bookclub_master
@fastidious _Comes close to spitting coffee_ Not wrong πŸ˜‚
I've (sadly, I know) been pulled back to Reddit by a neat app, and, well, I had no idea just how much effort folks are now going to to stage stuff for views; really a step-change (at least!) from when I was last exposed to public videos regularly.
@fastidious Ha, no, I've got Wireguard, vaultwarden and yarn.social running on the 3A+, with just an SD card. I have Pleroma running on my 3B+, with a 1 TB external HDD. I run PostgreSQL there, and, now, all my databases have been migrated there (incl., for example, the one Etherpad is using), save for Matrix: my Synapse server and PostgreSQL running alongside each other on that Asus 1000HE (2008). All my other servers are in Docker containers now, on my mother-in-law's old desktop: a 2005 Dell; the HDD failed on it last year, when I went down for a good week and a half, but other than replacing that, it's still doin' its thing. And now everything is backed up to my new Synology DS220+, with personal media further backed up to Backblaze.
Calibre server is now up and running for my new book club. :-) The custom Docker image has already been downloaded 31 times! Need to update the repo I forked off at some point, I guess, if folks are actually using of my work.

It's my understanding that this is the best of limited options when it comes to hosting ebooks for others; any counterarguments would be most welcome! :-)
Nice one, mate!
@prologic One thing that really bothered me was the opaque nature of the process. "It's not going to happy," was the extent of the view they shared on their reasoning.
@eaplmx Maybe eventually. They've made impressive inroads in the German public sector, for example. But both Discord and Slack are still slicker imo. Enabling experimental features in the flagship client brings it a lot closer already, though!
@eaplmx double tick for me! πŸ˜‚
@fastidious antiwork Discord
@prologic I'd sent a Discord admin a proposal about bridging a Matrix room of similar theme with a channel on their server. Got shot down. Then a third party raised the idea independently in a chat later, and I replied with enthusiasm, but also repeating what the admin had told me. At which point the admin jumped in the chat to slap me. πŸ˜…
Oh, wow; in-line is not a good look for that. A chance to try the other display formats, clearly! ^x^
Making friends and influencing people 😳
@prologic No DirtyDB file or some such was a default, I think. I went Postgres.
@fastidious Yeah, I didn't do my own build (for now); that's the latest Docker image. I think those themes are available with a skins environment variable, possibly; I've set loads, but not that one in particular.

Now I'm working on setting up a Calibre server for the club. 😁
@news Gonna use this as part of a new book club I'm setting up. πŸ“–πŸ˜
@movq I didn't actually think that was a driver behind either (no pun intended). I like both projects for their locked down deployments, by default. When they're done well, the docs even suggest post-install connections that you might want to use and why. Mobile has been successful with that sort of model for some time, and I'm quite happy to have a bit of bloat to get it with my desktop. (Read something recently about the duplication Flatpak introduces.) Storage is cheap!
@eaplmx Yeah exactly.
@eaplmx Do what you want, mate. I'm only on here every other day, so I just plow on as before, enjoying the new releases.
@darch πŸ‘†βž•πŸ˜›
@fastidious I read that, in other, (relatively) comparable scenarios, paying people to participate is very effective.

I also read that, after recently changing the policy to require proof of vaccination for entry to all liquor and cannabis shops, Quebec saw a big spike in vaccine appointments. ^x^
@prologic I was. Couldn't get it migrated, when I was moving everything over to Portainer / Docker, and then couldn't even restore the original set-up. πŸ˜…

Tbh, it was pretty useless, on my kit: it'd timeout on anything but the simplest translations. I'm still really hopeful about the project overall, but I've abandoned self-hosting it, at least for now.
@ionores Oh, wow. Big news. Wonder what's next (once he enjoys a bit of life outside cell service πŸ˜‰).
@TaMeR Oh, wow! Well, welcome back! πŸ‘‹πŸ™‚
@prologic No need to apologise – this is progress! Dogfooding is its own reward. 😁
@prologic Ah, right, OK, sure!
@fastidious I think there have been some major changes, particularly around cryptographic integrations. I'm pretty vanilla in my usage since ending my hiatus from it last year; prior to that, it was probably the mid 2000s, when I was last what you'd call an active user.

I initially wanted a palatable means of keeping on top of my spam awash cloud accounts, but it's properly won my heart once again since.
I forgot to backup my Thunderbird profile using their software; restoring the directory structure from backup wasn't doing the trick, until I found a Mozilla support article explaining how Thunderbird uses `profiles.ini`. Bacon saved! Very happy.
@prologic Running it now. I think I hit a memory leak or similar on the old master... Noticed a few hours ago that my pod was unresponsive, and, once I was able to get htop up, finally, I saw that the load was up near 31.00 where normally it'd be 0.31(!).

Anyway, I've restarted on the latest master now, obviously.

> Is it based on Debian?

Doesn't seem to be based on any distro, surprisingly.

I didn't have many expectations, going in, but, I have to say, I'm having fun right now. This has kept my interest, and made me smile on more than one occasion.

I was just reading on their subreddit about big changes in the core team, though, so who knows where the project will be next year.
@lyse Oh, yeah, sounds like quite the missed opportunity. (Not to rub it in. πŸ˜›)
@eaplmx Ha! Love it. :-)
@fastidious Fair criticism. Just trying something new, really. Now that my backup solution is robust, I feel I can play around a bit more; this is both my hobby and my livelihood, happily, or maybe sadly. πŸ˜‚
Looking at trying out Solus today. 4.3 Live disc is ready! πŸ§β›΅
Wow: a new version of Telegram just popped up on F-Droid, and it includes Tap to Translate! Very cool, even if it uses Googul Translate. ;-)
Wow. That's the first time I've seen the option to edit or delete a yarn in recent memory. That changes the moment it's replicated to peers, yeah?

I really came here to say that all of the sub pages that are indexed (on DDG, anyway) are Yarn.social conversations! Good advertising! 😁
It's funny: I rank well for both "nfld" and "nfld" + "uk" – only losing out to non-fatty liver disease (and, fair enough πŸ˜‚) – and while the former (rightly) brings up lots about the Canadian province, the latter is almost exclusive about the dog breed! πŸΆπŸ˜‚
@prologic Oh, interesting! As you've probably seen, I'm terrible at keeping up with pod news, so I'm looking forward to the help – which branch?

Oh, and nice avatar!
Ha. Thanks, both. And she's wearing a jumper that a friend of the family made especially for her _with pockets_. She's obsessed with pockets at the moment, and very sad that the various pretty dresses we get secondhand are pocketless. πŸ˜‚
Surrounded by her adoring fans. πŸ˜„
@aatikakhan Charming. πŸ˜ŸπŸ™„ And, hi! πŸ‘‹ Welcome! 😁
Revealed: Biden administration was not legally bound to auction gulf drilling rights

> The decision to go ahead with the sale has damaged Biden’s climate credentials after the Cop26 talks in Glasgow where he said the US would β€œlead by example” in slashing greenhouse gas emissions. The president, who has called the climate crisis an β€œexistential threat” to the US, said in a Democratic primary debate last year that under his administration there would be β€œno more drilling, including offshore. No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill, period, ends, number one.”
>
> This jarring contradiction has alarmed even some of Biden’s closest allies, with three Democratic members of Congress filing a brief last week with the federal court calling for a halt to the gulf lease sales. The three admitted that they are β€œdeeply concerned” and β€œshocked” that the government is pushing ahead with the drilling β€œdespite its own findings that the largest lease sale in history has not had an adequate environmental rights."

Unconscionable. :-( The US should have to fight for a seat at any climate conference from here on. Actions needed, 'cause their words mean nothing.
@hecanjog Please don't. Was just (initially) worried about you. This should be a place for life, in all its facets.
@superyarn Agreed! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‰ And welcome!
@johanbove Nice! Following you in the fediverse now too. πŸ™‚
@hecanjog Sounds like you're really struggling. Not sure where you are based; we have the Samaritans, in the UK.

Please consider a chat with me too: jlj@ctrl-c.club; happy to do voice at call.nfld.uk too.
I haven't deleted any of the cache files yet, though; and we're about to head out to the park, before the rain. 🌧 I'll check in a bit later.
@prologic OK, I think I'm running that branch now. πŸ€”πŸ˜
@prologic Agreed! That second shot in particular is very nice – looks like the makings of a lovely day out. 😁
@gadevoi Hello! πŸ‘‹ A (very belated – sorry!) welcome to the pod! 😁
@prologic Ha. OK, good to know.
@hecanjog ☹️ Sorry to hear that.
@prologic Ah, just heading to bed, but, cool, yeah, I'll try deleting that in the morning. Nope, no custom theme.
@news H'm I'm getting some duplicate yarns, locally, and my administrator's avatar has gone back to a default. Even after refreshing the cache and clearing browser content. cc @prologic
@prologic Ha. Very tame here: everyone was abed, save me; I was watching DS9, drinking a ridiculous raspberry white chocolate milkshake beer from Brewdog as the new year rang in. πŸ˜‚
@prologic HNY! πŸŽ‰
@eaplmx Welcome! πŸ‘‹πŸ˜
@ullarah You too!

Havin' a beer after the long drive to Granny's. 😁🍺 Kids happy, eating pizza and watching Blippi. πŸ™„πŸ•

Happy Xmas, all! πŸ˜„πŸŽ…πŸ€ΆπŸŽ„
Ah, right. Nice! I'll upgrade tomorrow. πŸ™‚
Yes, welcome! ^β¨°^
Ah, this is a known issue then. :-)
@lyse Lovely, and seasonal!
@prologic Oh, do you an Autonomous desk too?
@eldersnake see also Team America: World Police. Getting harder to see as satire with every year that passes.
Charity is not Mutual Aid
@darch Yeah, agreed. πŸ‘Œ
A friend made that for us. 😁 Her other concept was really cool too.
New Tandemonium! blog post up: https://www.tandemonium.fun/blog/see-you-in-22
@prologic Oh, sorry. What about teddit? https://teddit.net/r/antiwork/comments/rj6h1m/amazon_tornado_text_exchange_your_life_is_just/
