@jlj the Solus site is rather bogus. Is it based on Debian? What does it comes with it that makes it unique enough for someone to use?
XMPP became relevant when Google decided to use it. It became irrelevant when they stopped.
@prologic anyone who hasn't had to shovel their way out of the garage, or their house, or who hasn't seeing the mess the melting snow creates, or hasn't experienced corrosion because of the salt used to melt it... anyone who hasn't dealt with the traffic mess it can ensue under snowy conditions will say the same: "I miss it."

We miss it like we miss the holidays, that come and go without much impact. If you had to live with it, boy, that sentence will not ever be written. 🤣
@prologic their interface is ugly and clunky, they crash, and often do not work at all. But don't take my word for it, install them and you will see what I am talking about.
@lyse love that roof---and the snow, too!---and wish we built like that in the States. It looks like built to last, not like our 25 years shingles.
I use everything Apple and I love it, the same I love my mattress, and my 10,000 thread count sheets (kidding on that last one, but you get the idea 😂).
@prologic yes, they both suck. There are no good clients. None.
@prologic look up Dendrite.
@prologic the whole thing is so simple, what is there to suck? I mean, really. Again, the weak link is on the lack of clients. There is where the sucking resides.
@ullarah so, your friends and family connect to your Synapse server? How did you accomplish such feat?
@prologic servers? Many exist, even written in Golang. The problem resides with the clients, or lack thereof.
XMPP is hard to beat, but there is no client for iOS—or whatever exists is plain rubbish.
@prologic what does internal events do? I am going to try it, of course, most likely tomorrow, but would love some advanced details. Feed my curiosity! 😊
@eaplmx I wouldn't know where to start. Now, if you want to play Diablo III, I am for it. I play on the Americas servers, under Fastidious#11456.
LOL. That's @ullarah making sure your vision is fine. It is a subtle way to weed out old folks. 😜
@prologic not owning a car is a blessing for many reasons. I wish I didn’t. Sadly they are a necessity in the States; where we live public transportation is close to non-existent.
@lohn that’s nice! In the US, we work until we know we can afford retirement. Some people are 75—or older—and still working. Some can afford to retire around 40.

Wife was going over numbers the other day and concluded that we will have to work till 65, more or less. And by we she meant me; she plans to retire earlier. 🤣

@prologic colour changing would be cool, perhaps even useful if driving across many geographical areas. In Florida, for example, you want a colour that reflects light, nothing dark. As you drive to colder areas, you might want the opposite. Some interesting utility on that feature, for sure.
@prologic it comes to prove that if you want something done right, you leave it to the experts. Or… practice, practice, and butcher things along the way until you master the task. 😂
@lyxal it happened relatively often when I was younger, not so much now. But yeah, hiccups aren’t fun, I agree.
@kt84 is that a tulle skirt she is wearing? Love how it perfectly matches her little boots, and hat band. Such a fashionista! ☺️
@jlj that child looks like one coming from a fairy tale. She is such a cutie!
@lyse I wanted Japan to be our main and only focus, because there is so much to do, and see. Yet, partner has South Korea on target too because, you know, dramas and K-pop! 😂
I love it too. It was badly needed, from my point of view.
@prologic you are welcome! Hahahaha!
@prologic LOL. I will get to it on my tomorrow. I am surprised I am the only one seemingly noticing this things. I am afraid I will be hated for it, as no one else seems to see them. 🙈
@ullarah, and @prologic, a small issue. Tap my nick, which will take you to my profile. Tap to reply to this twt. Nothing happens. There is no compose twt option at the profile level. It used to be.
I miss the thin dotted line that used to be under the “in-reply-to” context line. That was also removed when Pico was updated. Pinging @ullarah and @prologic to spark a yarn, should one be needed. 😊
@prologic over 12,000 employees, over 70,000 students. It is the second largest university in the US, enrolment wise, this year. It was the first last year.
@pc it is decentralised. You can run your own, with relatively little resources, allowing you to fully control it.
@prologic why not? It will still be a toggle on settings. All I am asking if there could be a choice to set it enabled per default (like some other pod settings), and allow users to overwrite.
@prologic wish I could say the same for my first day at work after the break. I couldn’t keep up with everything that happened during break, plus new requests, plus new projects, plus only me there to tackle things.

Yesterday and today have been a nice break from all of that. And tomorrow, well, tomorrow I have planned to take deep breaths, and go over things the best I can, without letting anything stress me out.
@lohn I think @lyse was asking, how much longer until you retire?
@eaplmx I will have absolutely no idea on where to start! I mean, the group you listed is formed from very opposite functions, just as what they will have to "think about". Truly mind blown.
@prologic pretty cool! I like it very much. Is there a way to have it be enabled by default, for all users?
@lyse I bet he will! You know, now he is 21 (as of this month), and less and less he wants to go vacationing with us, old farts. But everywhere we go he is always been, and he will always be invited. We have Asia as our next target 🤞🏻.
@prologic start slow, say, 2000-3000 steps per day. Then up it 500 steps every week until you reach 10000 daily steps, or so. Then keep it up, every day, do not miss a streak. You will notice a change in your life. Of course, if you can run it, or alternate walk and run, it would be the best!
@movq temperatures were way different back then, I am sure. Also, if you are scorching hot anything but what you have seems right. 😂
I have never understood why people uses photos of screens, or even screenshots, of a crash. If it's help what's sought, extracting and providing the text from the crash is much better. And it doesn't bloat the email.
@prologic it is a cryptic message for other Offgriders. Better don't ask, just move along. 😂
@lyse I can live without the wood fires, all I need is a comfy hotel, and a good rental vehicle. Other than that, I can trek. Lovely weather on that picture. Strikes me as cold, and dry.
@prologic that is functionality already available on an app, the Health app. It doesn't go to a third party, it is all on the phone.
@prologic, I think @movq's comment is right on target, though I agree---and subscribe---to @lyse's point of view: I really do not care about it much.
Yes, I don't think this case has anything to do with the "hide replies". There is something else going on this yarn.
Hmm, even the root on that yarn is messed up. It will go no where. Something else is cooking here.
@prologic, I think this has to do with the "hide replies" setting.

* Go to: https://arrakis.netbros.com/conv/u37gouq
* Click on the fork with 2 replies

What's that?
OK, I just pulled master and built. I have the feature on the pod I am running. I like it! Yet, it is missing something.

Whichever yarn gets a reply, it goes to top. Timeline must be keep chronologically ordered based on which yarn was the last one replied to. That way you see the last activity right there.
Both screens are different; one is the "mobile" app, the other is web on mobile. Can't compare them that way. I am also cautiously concerned with anything gets "quickly" "hacked" 😂. Is this a feature, like you always do? If so, what must I do to enable it at my end? I am going to be pretty much off for the rest of the day today, and tomorrow---medical reasons---but hopefully will ping you back on Thursday.
@prologic it is an exercise machine, like a treadmill.
@ullarah I started today, and it was not fun. To top it off, I was the only one in my group back. Yeah.
@thecanine Australian winter... LOL. First joke of the year! 😂
@movq woah, they sure are ridiculously thick! Wow!
Implementing this would make things so much cleaner, and organised! But I don't know where that sits on the roadmap.
Oh yes, super fast! 🎉
Alright, I wasn't, but now I am. Testing this again. This is on desktop.
It was relatively slow on desktop, let’s see on mobile. I am not sure if I am running the right branch though…
Let's see how this one goes. Now testing it on desktop. Will try mobile next.
@prologic tomorrow, for sure, yes. I am in bed now, waaaaay pass due my sleepies. Tomorrow is working day, sadly. 😬
@prologic yes. 😂
Yes, it is slow whilst posting a new twt. Maybe because of my pod’s huge cache?
Noticing a fairly slow posting time. Well, posting a reply is taking longer than I remember. I wonder if it is the same whilst posting a new twt.
@prologic so, what’s Lincoln logs? Is it a toy, or the product of someone’s able craft?
@prologic hmm, alrighty then. Onwards!
@prologic that person hasn’t been around for many months. I think that language file can be considered stagnant at this point.
@prologic sounds good! It is just rather odd as it is right now. ☺️
On a user’s profile: ”They may not see your replies!”**; who are “they”? It should be ”Your replies/twts might not be seeing.”**. More neutral.
Not seeing the issues, but I haven’t “played” with it enough to fully tell. I believe Arrakis isn’t on the very latest. Will update before going to bed, and report oddities tomorrow.
@jlj can you link a couple of the duplicated ones? I took a look as an anonymous user and could not see one.
@pedantic indeed, mate!
I know we tend to be drawn the fireworks display, but I wish we had more laser and electric lights, and less of air polluting stuff.

When Lunar new year comes around—yes, my family celebrates new year twice—it will get even messier here. 😬
@thecanine the name is Russian Ushanka, I believe. My kid bought one for fun—to take to camping, or just to fool around with—even though he will never need it in Florida. 😂
@lyse the spatula sound is very relaxing! Are you going to be the one putting up the new plaster? That’s a lot of work!
@prologic yes, east coast. It is now 22:33, so 1 hour and change to go.
2 hours and 15 minutes. 😂
Happy new year, Brisbane! Cc: @prologic, @kt84 🎉🥳
@movq that’s a good question worthy of an answer. I mean, in here—depending on the neighbourhood—by the time Amazon comes to fetch it they might find the whole thing cannibalised. 😬
@yarn_police LOL, so expedient, so accurate, so legal! You are our very best, and we are proud for having you as our law enforcement. 😊
@movq those two pictures reminded me this article I read recently, about an abandoned Amazon truck.
@movq if you are generating OpenType, would you leave those on the repo, so I can use it? 🙈
This is what I see: https://arrakis.netbros.com/conv/nnr7z6a, which is missing context older than an hour something ain’t working right.
@prologic you staring too long on an empty page, mate. ☺️
@movq nah, it is just the time of the year. Yarners are hibernating. :-)
Yes, it breaks fine in a twt. It is only in the followers that breaks bad.
Not ready to come back yet 😂, but I just noticed the “Followers” URLs ram against the edge on mobile. If it is what I think it is, this dummy URL will also do it: https://www.thisisatestforacerylongurl.toseewhatitdoestothemobileinterface.com/.
LOL. Happy holidays, mate!
@thecanine grats on your new iPhone, and happy Christmas! 😊
@ullarah thank you, and same for you, and yours! Have a merry one!
@prologic nope, but you are much closer than I! 😂
@prologic merry Christmas, mate! 🎄🧑🏻‍🎄🎅🏻
@prologic sometimes it shows fine, sometimes it doesn’t. Can’t explain it, but I have seeing your default avatar in @xuu’s, @ullarah’s, and @eldersnake’s too.
I mean, crazy!

Screenshot
Well, they are now gone. I bet it was just local browser caching. That’s the only explanation.

I removed autoloading of remote images because they were slowing down the pod big time. Specially images coming from Down Under. 😢
You are the only one exhibiting this problem, so it might be something localised.
@prologic yes, images are still showing after removing the regex. Are external images cached locally? 😳
Oh, I see. That means the pod I run might run into the same issue, right? I am not home now to pull an update. Hopefully it behaves.
Maybe the issue is storage related.
@prologic, your avatar is also flipfloping. Sometimes it goes back to the default autogenerated one.
I smell a downed pod this morning. Well, an extra one, that is.
@prologic more like text-overflow: ellipsis. But there might be more to it.
