@prologic I've always used: docker run -p 1025:1025 -p 8025:8025 mailhog/mailhog
@fastidious I still *hope*, that they make them as strong as fourty years ago. But the Wikipedia article also questions it, because there are no real crash boats out there. Unlike in the automotive industry, the boatyards don't have to do physical crash tests for their products, so all we know is from accidents. Oh yes, it's incredible, how one can climb from article to article or video to video.
@fastidious I'm just using a plain text TODO file edited in Vim. That's enough for me. But maybe I misunderstood your use case. :-?
This might be interesting for all the sailors out there. I got a bit sidetracked while Wikipedia surfing (actually can't remember anymore where I started) and ended up at the crash test yacht Dehler 31. In 1988 a German yachting magazine tried to crash it and the yacht was surprisingly resistent. No water leaked in although they tried hard. At least in the 80ies boats were built quite robust, not sure, if this still holds. I personally doubt it, when looking at all other things nowadays. Anyways, there is also a German video on YouTube about this crash test. Very surprising to watch. For the English speaking folks, the yacht "Fizzical" built in 1982 was crash tested in 2011 by a British yachting magazine and there are also some YouTube videos on that series. Very robust, too and lots of interesting findings. Highly recommended.
@fastidious Hehe, and then crash the helicopter into the drone display? ]:-> The thing with these drone shows is that it only looks good from certain angles. However, the display can also rotate, as indicated a few times in the video.
@fastidious Regarding more laser shows, well, LEDs, I just came across this: https://youtu.be/n9tu-L59YqQ
@prologic Debian packages immediately come to mind, such as: https://ftp.debian.org/debian/
@jlj You're about right. That shot is lost forever. ;-)
@movq Hahahaa, holy shit, this is fucking cool! \\o/ Some photos indeed look a bit shopped, but still, really beautiful!
@movq Hahahaa, holy shit, this is fucking cool! \o/ Some photos indeed look a bit shopped, but still, really beautiful!
@prologic @homer Exactly. At least in our region we have much more spruce than pine or fir trees.
On the return of today's milk buy walk I had to take cover under some spruces for 20 minutes. When the rain was over and the sun came out it made for a fantastic play of colors. I wish I had my camera with me.
@fastidious Oh wow, replacing a roof is going to be expensive, not to mention all the consequential damages like getting rain in the house and such. Good luck! Lothar in 1999 was the last heavy European windstorm here, where forests were flattened like nothing.
@fastidious Yikes, that's quite a lot! O_o Didn't imagine this many. Not even close. But they weren't severe enough to cause real damage to your house and propery, were they?
@fastidious You're about right, that's why the colors of the flowers puzzled me for a bit but I couldn't figure out why. @prologic A big barn on a farm is always cool to have. :-)
@fastidious It's fascinating what shapes and colors are out there. Very neat!
@movq As for Go, you can set the GOPATH and other environment variables. Have a look at go env. But yeah, defaulting to ~/go is not very polite, I agree.~
@fastidious Haha, no doubt about that. How many hurricanes are there in your area?
@lyxal Oh man, this looks fucking cool! Never seen jellyfish in such a shape before.
@movq The sunset is really cool! Snow melted already over here.
@ullarah This looks lovely! Is this at your place?
@movq @fastidious I agree, it just has to sound nice. That's all that matters and that's why plenty of my collection is not really understandable to me. But it's a bonus if I actually get the lyrics and thus the jokes, puns or whatever.
@prologic As for the server, we run ejabberd. The Erlang config was a bit strange back in the days, but YAML is now also supported if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, YAML for configs is a pain on its own, that's for sure.
Thanks guys and well put, @fastidious. :-D Luckily, we don't have really strong snowfalls here. I definitely prefer my bit of shovelling over a flooded garage, @prologic. ;-)
I like it! Good job, @fastidious.
Oh yeah, it's snowing like crazy and even doesn't melt. \\o/ Snow getting dumped down
Oh yeah, it's snowing like crazy and even doesn't melt. \o/ Snow getting dumped down
Yeah, @movq, I don't have an office in my backyard. :-D @prologic, even I don't understand the singer. But the video shows it clearly, it's about revolution and fighting for freedom until death.
@off_grid_living Yiha! This is very neat! Even with air venting. ;-)
@prologic Out of curiosity, what's the difference between support and help? They sound pretty similar to me.
@prologic I don't have any trouble with XMPP. Well, maybe one. Only very few people are using it.
@movq Ah, good old Frühlingsputz.
@lyxal Luckily, I only have it rarely. What helps me 99% is drinking a glass of water in one gulp without stopping in between.
@lohn Cool, four years is in sight. @fastidious Here in Germany it's 65, but will be raised to at least 67. Until this becomes relevant to me, I think I have to work into my seventies I fear. You can also retire earlier, but then the pension will also be lower.
@fastidious Ah, Japan sounds very interesting! It's a fascinating country and culture. Well, better South than North Korea, I reckon. ;-) But I have to admit I don't know much.
@lohn Ah, so you're actually very serious about COBOL. Cool! Looking forward to your reports what it is like to work with such an ancient language. Exactly right, @fastidious, that was my question.
@fastidious I know this too well. It's just the natural way things go. It's certainly a bit early for details at this point in time, but are you planning on a circular tour in Asia or just a single country?
@homer Thanks, mate! That clearly shows that you're a far better researcher than I am. :-)
@movq Are you renovating, too?
@movq Just keep moving, do not stand still. Luckily, no human was murdered on this crime site. ;-)
We were lucky, the sun came out and made for a great natural spectacle. It was very windy and thus fricking cold, though. Especially at the summit. The flag had seen better days, it's falling apart rapidly. The Berg-Back-Buben (Mountain Baking Boys) were heating the oven again and vanished into the restaurant when we arrived. I have to ask them next time what their schedule is and where I can get some delicious bread or whatever they make. Sun peaking through the clouds The last two photos show the blown over tree I had a couple of days ago blocking the trail. Meanwhile, they cut the beech into large chunks and put them at the wayside. The trunk is rotted thoroughly and goes way up. So, not usable for building material.
@prologic There are underground coal fires going on in a few places, I definitely buy that. Even our German army set a peat field on fire when launching missiles in dry and hot summer 2018. Weirdly I can't find a good English article on that matter.
@movq @prologic I used to look it up in Leo, too. But I switched to dict.cc for quite a lot of years now. Can't remember the exact reason, but I think, the translations are a bit better.
@prologic Oh, crazy! Travelling only 6.5 kilometers in at least (!) 6,000 years is insanely slow, indeed! Wow, holy shit, 35-140°C is enough to self-heat coal!? O_o Not sure what that exactly means, though. Let's see what the peer-review of this whole report finds.
@prologic Bwahahahahaaaa! :-D
@prologic In this case it's more "habitat" or "territory", I reckon. But I didn't know either, that this German term was adopted into the English language.
Temperatures dropped again and it's snowing the tiniest little bit. Also I just saw a squirrel jumping in the trees. What a beautiful thing to start in the day.
@lohn Oh nice! So how much longer do you have to go?
@thecanine Hahaha, I was also thinking about a coal fire. :'-D
@fastidious Maybe bring your boy, he'd enjoy it! :-D
@movq 7:55 still reminds me more of a bass than a ukulele. ;-) But yeah, nice inventions. And even cooler if there are people out there, who can use them properly. :-)
@movq Come on, who doesn't enjoy high resolution crashes?! See?
@movq Cool, thanks. I don't really hear any difference between the red and the black strings. It actually just sounds like a bass to me, not really ukulele-esque. But I'm terrible at telling those kind of things apart. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯_

Ah shit, that's not gonna work, I forgot: No wood-fires and no camping within 200 metres Mt. Kosciuszko summit! No camping in glacial lake catchments and within 200 metres Rawson Pass either! At least back in May 2014.
@thecanine @fastidious Hahaha, yeah, the Aussie winter is fabulous! :-D And we soft Europeans really need it over there. Once the pandemic is "over" in two or three years (being optimistic) we could actually get there. Alternatively we might do the camp in the Snowy Mountains or even at Mount Kosciuszko. I've been up there at its summit in Aussie autumn and it was quite nice actually. @prologic As much as I really enjoy this idea, it's probably a rather big undertaking. Both logistically and moneywise. Each continent might do a camp separately, though.
@movq They look like solid bars, holy crap. When do you get one of these? ;-)
@movq Exactly. Maybe I will do it manually later this evening or tomorrow. Depends on my mood. :-D
@prologic And d) starting a fire without a lighter and matches. No, the propane torch isn't allowed either.
@prologic When do we start?
You're welcome, @prologic. :-) And just committed another fix to my parser, that also handles empty URL and filled URI fields.
@prologic Oh, cool! One day I'd love to build my own log cabin with full-size logs. :-)
@kt84 Catching water snakes? :-D
And finally my `useragent` parser is able to resolve the Who Follow Resources from the User-Agent headers. It supports both the official and the buggy yarnd formats.
@prologic Ta, there are plenty of crafts, I have no idea about. :-)
@prologic Alright! https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/yarn/pulls/639
@thecanine I'm particularly a fan of cowboy hats, they just look so awesome and are even useful in summer. In fact I tried to make my own out of leather twice (please excuse that I never heard of shaving back in the days). But, these experiments must been considered failures, as the hats were too heavy and I got headache after a couple of minutes wearing them. :-( So I didn't apply the finishing touches. I still have the brown one, not sure, what happened to the black hat, though.
Hmmm, the Who Follows Resource produces a JSON response, that is not compliant to our very own specification on that matter. I will fix it and write some tests. Actually, I wanted to improve my Twtxt User Agent Parser and fetch said resource.
Listening to Feuerschwanz' new album Memento Mori up and down and bloody hell it's absolutely brilliant. I'm having an absolute blast! 🤘 After the meteor the very next best thing last year.
@prologic @ullarah Nice! I love when I have a piece of nature for just myself without somebody else in sight and sound.
@lyxal Looking forward to February then. :-)
Oh, I see, @thecanine, whoopsidaisy! I've never heard that term before, @fastidious, but I had to laugh at the wonderful story about your kid. :-) Ushankas look pretty cool, so we all have to attest good taste at least.
@fastidious Ta, I probably am the chosen one. But it's not decided yet, what kind of ceiling it's gonna be in the end.
@movq :-D
@fastidious In fact I find these fireworks very boring, too. Not to speak of the environmental damage they do. People literally burn money, which I don't understand at all. Not the tiniest bit. So, roughly a month to go before the Lunar New Year hits if I'm not mistaken?
@movq We got rebooted in a parallel universe. Let's find out whether that was meant for production use or not.
@prologic Haha, yes. Placing thermometers in the sun is silly. No idea what they were thinking. Maybe it's a different story in the summer, these spots might be shady, I don't know. Believe it or not, but scraping off the plaster was much quicker than the wallpaper. And you also don't need to spray water. But I should have worn my mask, it was a bit dusty. Unfortunately, I left it at home that day. :-/
Healthy new year my friends! I tried to escape the stupid firecracker racket with a night hike. And just before midnight I saw a meteor for about 1.5 seconds, fucking cool! No, that was not a fireworks rocket. Nothing happened in that direction. With the real rockets and reflection in the clouds it felt like heavy heat lightning in the distance, but my camera couldn't capture any of that cool stuff. Fireworks That was my best shot of the fireworks by far. Plenty of other shit shots, if you're reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaally into that sort of thing. But it's really not worthwile, you've been warned.
@prologic I was thinking about that, when the Chinese translations were introduced. Maybe in the future if the user interface becomes a bit more stable.
@off_grid_living Oh nice, you're beekeeping! I didn't know that. 30 kg of honey sounds great. You're having cool flowers, happy and healthy 2022!
@thecanine Nice! It's baseball cap peak is a bit bent. :-D
@prologic Very lovely! :-)
@movq Hahahahaaaa, I like it! :'-D Bon voyage to the next solar orbiting phase.
As promised, here's scraping off render from the ceiling yesterday: Plaster coming off nearly on its own If you head over to https://lyse.isobeef.org/tmp/schlafzimmer/ you'll see two bonus shots with the footstool and temperature records like in Down Under. :-P
@movq What a mess! :-D
@prologic There's a big shortage of rockpiles for quite a while now. @lyxal to the rescue!
@lyxal Nice, so can we expect new lovely rockpiles then?
@movq Really beautiful, the moon looks absolutely terrific!
@ionores Hahaha! :-D I'll have a read tomorrow.
@prologic Probably, yes. Some parts would probably still make for beautiful timber, though, I imagine.
@lohn Yeah, that's true. I used to ride the train with somebody who told me just before he got pensioned that he was a COBOL programmer. Good luck with your future COBOL career. :-)
@lohn IDENTIFICATION DIVISION. PROGRAM-ID. OMG. PROCEDURE DIVISION. DISPLAY "OMFG!". STOP RUN.
The storm two days ago had blown over this tree on a forest path. The roots were totally rotted. Fallen tree blocking a forest road. Just in case my mate and I both carried beanies with us, because the last times it was a bit icy. But unexpectedly we got 14°C today, so we ended up taking off our jackets and just wearing jumpers with rolled up sleeves. Felt like spring. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-12-30/
In the morning I wore my new hiking boots for the first time and, as I already expected, got blisters on my heels. They need to be broken in. When I wanted to pick up my camera of the corridor this afternoon to copy the photos onto the computer I noticed that another mate had tried to call. Returning the phone call and back we went into the woods. This time I duck-taped my heels. Now I will go through my photos.
@movq I read the article as the driver took them. But obviously, anybody could, if the keys were left behind. Does "your" van also have the keys in the dash? If not, use the master key – a rock – to check on the cargo. :-D But watch out for the Yarn Patrol!
@movq You better will, don't risk getting in trouble with the @yarn_police! :-D
@fastidious Bwahhahaaa, what a great story! :-D Unbelievable.
@off_grid_living Oh wow, five water pipes is something! :-)
@movq LOL :-D Are towing companies busy these days or why are they gonna get it not today?
Whoops, the Cholorophilia series went to hibernation the last weeks. Sorry! Now for #13 in this series I have some larger ants for you that are in a big woodpecker carved tree hole. Ants in a tree with lots of resin and spider webs around the opening Some of them got into the resin and had bad times. I tried to rescue them with a twig, but with very limited success. Once fished out, some went straigt back into the dangerous cave. It was quite crazy to feel the small straw shaking by the powerful ants clamping on the other side. More shots of that day back in May. It was quite an eventful day since I featured the newts already in Chlorophilia #9.
